Local Chefs Compete for “Best Bite of King Park”
November 18, 2009
Indianapolis – In a contest reminiscent of “Top Chef,” local chefs will battle for the honor of cooking the “Best Bite of King Park” on December 3 at the Harrison Center for the Arts gymnasium. Organized by the King Park Area Development Corporation (KPADC), the competition will serve as a fundraiser benefitting the historic King Park neighborhood.
Five chefs will be given $125 to buy ingredients for their creation, and must pair each recipe with a beer or wine from Goose the Market or tea from Tea’s Me. The dishes will be judged by chef Chris Eley of Goose the Market and another guest judge, with audience input accounting for 35% of the of the vote.
“I love to bring attention to area chefs,” says Eley. “Being a resident of King Park and running Goose the Market in the neighborhood has brought me a lot of joy, so I’m thrilled to help out other area chefs.”
“King Park is such an amazing neighborhood,” says Janine Betsy, Executive Director of the King Park Area Development Corporation. “It has historic charm and a rich cultural history, yet it’s also becoming a hip, modern destination for young professionals, families and older adults alike. I’m looking forward to showcasing this gem of a neighborhood – and our fantastic area chefs -- to the rest of Indianapolis.”
Doors open at 5:30 pm. Appetizers will be served during the silent auction, which features goods from local vendors as well as a weeklong stay in Barcelona, Spain. At 6:15 pm the “Best Bite” stations will open, and by 7:00 pm the winner will be announced. Tickets are $25 per person. Please contact Janine Betsey, jbetsey@kpadc.org or call 317-924-5055, to register for the event.
